In a proactive move to combat the rising tide of cyber threats, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh inaugurated 57 state-of-the-art cyber police stations in Lucknow on Wednesday. This strategic initiative forms a crucial component of Uttar Pradesh’s comprehensive approach towards safeguarding its digital infrastructure.
Statewide Cyber Security Enhancement
In December 2023, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, greenlit the establishment of 57 cybercrime police stations across all 75 districts of the state. This landmark decision underscores the state government’s commitment to fortifying Uttar Pradesh’s defenses against cyber threats by providing specialized investigative capabilities in every corner of the state.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remarked during the launch ceremony, “UP police would be the first in India to have cyber police stations in all the districts. All police stations in UP will have cyber cells so that victims do not have to go to dedicated cyber police stations. Their problem will be resolved at the station level. These police stations are being made for the common man of this state.”
Geographical Distribution for Optimal Coverage
Strategic districts such as Ghaziabad, Raebareli, Sitapur, and Kanpur Dehat have been earmarked as locations for the new cyber police stations. This meticulous geographical distribution ensures comprehensive coverage across Uttar Pradesh, facilitating swift responses to cybercrime incidents across the state’s diverse landscape.
Financial Commitment to Cybersecurity
The implementation of this initiative entails a significant financial commitment of over Rs 127.24 crore from the state government, underscoring its unwavering dedication to bolstering the cybersecurity framework. This substantial investment will facilitate the establishment of well-equipped police stations, equipped with cutting-edge technology and proficient staff to effectively combat the evolving complexities of cyber threats.
Streamlining Operations for Enhanced Efficiency
Under the revamped system, the cybercrime police stations will operate under the jurisdiction of the District Superintendents of Police (SPs), streamlining operations and decision-making processes at the local level. This organizational restructuring is poised to enhance operational efficiency, empowering law enforcement authorities to tailor their strategies to address the unique cybercrime landscape prevalent in their respective jurisdictions.
By inaugurating these cyber police stations, Yogi Adityanath has taken a decisive step towards fortifying Uttar Pradesh’s cybersecurity apparatus. With enhanced investigative capabilities and a widespread network of cyber defense, Uttar Pradesh is poised to effectively mitigate cyber threats, ensuring the safety and security of its digital ecosystem.
