G. Satheesh Reddy, former Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and scientific advisor to the Minister of Defence, has set forth a bold vision, envisioning India as the global frontrunner in science and technology (S&T) by the year 2047.
Addressing the audience on ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat in S&T’ at a collaborative event organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Mahasangh (ABRSM) and Voice of Tirupati Academicians (VTA) at SV University, Dr. Satheesh Reddy paid homage to former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, revered as the ‘Father of indigenous defence technology’. He emphasized Dr. Kalam’s unwavering pursuit of self-reliance, a cornerstone of India’s technological aspirations.
Highlighting the imperative of indigenous innovation to materialize the government’s vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat), Dr. Satheesh Reddy underscored the diminishing reliance on foreign nations for defence equipment.
“We have achieved significant milestones, including the successful launch of 58 indigenously developed PSLV vehicles, as well as missions such as Chandrayaan and Gaganyaan. Additionally, India ranks third globally in terms of the publication of research papers,” he remarked, signaling the need to sustain this momentum to position India as a global leader by 2047.
Reflecting on India’s progress in S&T in the 21st century, SVU Vice-Chancellor V. Srikanth Reddy reminisced about the remarkable advancements made by the nation. The event witnessed the presence of notable figures such as ABRSM’s national joint secretary Gunta Laxman, State president Y.V. Rami Reddy, vice-president C. Vani, and VTA convener M. Rajasekhar.
As India charts its course towards technological prowess and self-sufficiency, Dr. Satheesh Reddy’s vision serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration.
