“NTPC Green and Indus Towers Join Forces for Renewable Energy Expansion”

NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL), a subsidiary of India’s state-owned power giant NTPC, has taken a significant stride towards bolstering the nation’s renewable energy sector. In a pivotal move, NGEL has inked an initial pact with Indus Towers Ltd (ITL), a prominent name in India’s telecom infrastructure landscape, to drive the development of renewable energy projects. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment towards advancing green energy objectives and aligning with the Government of India’s ambitious targets for a carbon-neutral economy.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NGEL and ITL sets the stage for collaborative efforts in the joint development of grid-connected renewable energy-based power projects. These projects will encompass a spectrum of renewable sources including solar, wind, and energy storage solutions. Through this strategic alliance, both entities aim to contribute significantly to India’s renewable energy capacity, thereby fostering sustainable growth while mitigating environmental impact.

Indus Towers Ltd (ITL) brings to the table a robust vision to expand its renewable energy portfolio to Giga Watt (GW) scale capacity. This expansion is not merely a business objective but also aligns with ITL’s commitment to achieve net zero emissions. As a leading passive telecom infrastructure provider, ITL’s nationwide presence and extensive network of over 211,775 telecom towers position it uniquely to drive substantial advancements in renewable energy deployment across the country.

The signing of the MoU, a milestone event, took place in the presence of key officials from both NTPC and Indus Towers. Soumya Kanti Chowdhuri, Chief General Manager of NGEL, and Vikas Poddar, Chief Financial Officer of ITL, led the signing ceremony, signaling a strong intent to collaborate and innovate towards sustainable energy solutions.

NTPC, renowned as India’s largest power utility, boasts a formidable core business of power generation with a total installed capacity of 76 GW. With an ambitious roadmap aiming for 60 GW of Renewable Energy (RE) capacity by 2032, NTPC is spearheading the nation’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources. Presently, NTPC has 3.5 GW of installed RE capacity, with over 28 GW in the pipeline, indicating a steadfast commitment to driving renewable energy adoption at scale.

As India continues to witness exponential growth in its telecom sector, the collaboration between NGEL and ITL assumes even greater significance. Indus Towers’ unparalleled expertise in deploying, owning, and managing telecom towers across all 22 circles in India positions it as a key enabler in driving renewable energy integration into critical telecom infrastructure. By leveraging synergies and expertise, this partnership is poised to accelerate the pace of renewable energy adoption while fortifying India’s position as a global leader in sustainable development.

In conclusion, the collaboration between NTPC Green Energy Ltd and Indus Towers Ltd marks a pivotal moment in India’s renewable energy journey. By leveraging their respective strengths and resources, these two entities are poised to drive transformative change, advancing the nation’s green energy objectives and contributing significantly towards a cleaner, more sustainable future for generations to come.
