Renowned lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar has offered a measured response to filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s recent critique of the popular series Mirzapur, produced by Farhan Akhtar’s production house.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Sandeep Reddy Vanga had expressed disdain towards Mirzapur, claiming it to be riddled with profanity and likely to induce nausea among viewers. However, Javed Akhtar’s reaction to this criticism exuded a sense of honor, expressing gratitude for Vanga’s acknowledgment.
In a conversation with Mojo Story, Akhtar remarked on the irony of Vanga’s remarks, pointing out that despite a career spanning 53 years, Sandeep Reddy Vanga failed to identify any objectionable content in his work. Instead, he resorted to critiquing a series produced by Farhan Akhtar’s production company, Excel Entertainment, in which Javed Akhtar wasn’t directly involved.
“It flattered me to no end. In a career of 53 years, you couldn’t find anything objectionable? What a shame,” Akhtar remarked, reflecting on Vanga’s choice to criticize Mirzapur rather than finding fault in his own domain.
Shifting focus to their respective projects, Javed Akhtar is currently occupied with writing lyrics for the upcoming film Lahore 1947, featuring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, and Karan Deol. Meanwhile, Sandeep Reddy Vanga has projects like Spirit and Animal Park in the pipeline, continuing his creative endeavors in the cinematic realm.
As the discourse unfolds between industry stalwarts like Javed Akhtar and Sandeep Reddy Vanga, it underscores the diverse perspectives and opinions that contribute to the vibrant landscape of Bollywood. While criticisms and disagreements may arise, they serve as catalysts for introspection and growth within the entertainment industry.
