In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Emraan Hashmi expressed his admiration for Kangana Ranaut as an artist while acknowledging her concerns about nepotism in Bollywood. Reflecting on their shared experience working on ‘Gangster’, Emraan emphasized that Kangana had a pivotal lead role in the film, which facilitated her breakthrough in the industry. He debunked the notion that only individuals favored by nepotism gain opportunities, citing Kangana’s success as a testament to talent prevailing over industry connections.

While acknowledging that Kangana Ranaut may have encountered challenges in the film industry, Emraan cautioned against generalizing and vilifying the entire industry. He emphasized the need for a balanced perspective, acknowledging that while there may be instances of nepotism, not all individuals within the industry are complicit. Emraan and Kangana’s professional collaboration spans multiple films beyond ‘Gangster’, including ‘Raaz: The Mystery Continues’, ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbai’, and ‘Ungli’. Their longstanding association underscores the complexity of relationships within the film fraternity amidst discussions about nepotism and favoritism.

Kangana Ranaut’s vocal stance on nepotism gained significant traction after her remark on Karan Johar’s chat show, ‘Koffee with Karan’, in 2017, where she dubbed him the “flag-bearer of nepotism”. Her comments sparked widespread debate within the industry and garnered renewed attention following the tragic demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Meanwhile, Emraan Hashmi is gearing up for the release of his upcoming web series, ‘Showtime’, which delves into the theme of nepotism in the film industry. The series, featuring an ensemble cast including Mouni Roy, Naseeruddin Shah, Mahima Makwana, Rajeev Khandelwal, and Shriya Saran, is set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on March 8.

Emraan Hashmi’s commentary on nepotism offers valuable insights into the industry’s intricacies, encouraging dialogue and introspection on the prevailing challenges and opportunities within Bollywood.
