Disengagement Is Almost Complete”: Defense Minister On India-China Truce At LAC

This was the statement of the Defense Minister a week after the two-day bilateral meet wherein Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping had endorsed the agreement on the patrol and disengagement modalities along the LAC in eastern Ladakh.

Tezpur, July 8: “The process of disengagement on LAC in Eastern Ladakh has nearly been completed,” Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said here Thursday. Discussions have been going on between India and China at both diplomatic and military levels to solve conflicts in some areas along the LAC. After the latest talks, there has been a broad consensus to restore the ground situation. This consensus has emerged on the basis of equal and mutual security. The agreement encompasses rights concerning patrolling and grazing in traditional areas. On the basis of this consensus, the process of disengagement is almost complete. We will try to move beyond mere disengagement, but for that we will have to wait a little more, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Bob Khathing Museum at Tezpur in Assam.

India-China Border Agreement

This came after India and China indicated that the two nations had agreed on an understanding to patrol along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) at their border regions. The standoff over the border between India and China started along the LAC in eastern Ladakh in 2020 following the Chinese military actions. The case was such that the two countries took some time before they could considerably ease their tensions, which strained the relationship.

The Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, earlier said, “He hoped the ties would go forward in smooth ways so that certain discrepancies would not restrict or stop the relationship between the two countries.”. Birth anniversary: The Defense Minister also speaks about the effort of first Home Minister Sardar Patel and says, “There are a lot of names that could not find a proper place in our history, but that never means their sacrifices were tiny. It is our obligation to remember their sacrifices and do respect.I pay homage to India’s first Union Home Minister and the man behind the unification of the country, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.”

Singh further noted that the kind of unity we get to see in India is amazing, urging everyone to maintain this speciality. Whenever the name of India is raised around the world, they do also say ‘Unity in Diversity’. There are a lot of languages, cultures, and religions residing in this country. The kind of unity we see within India is just fantastic. This is what we need to hold on to, as it makes us special. Economic development along with infrastructure under PM Modi’s leadership are of special focus from the government, said the defense minister while talking to ANI at Tezpur in the east district of Assam last night.
