IndiGo Pune-Jodhpur Flight Receives Bomb Threat; Thorough Search Underway

Airline authorities, on receiving the threat, immediately sprang into action by taking the aircraft to a secluded area of the airport for further inspection, officials said.

An Indigo flight 6E133, that took off from Pune to Jodhpur reported a bomb threat on Monday afternoon, October 20. It was landed at Jodhpur airport and landed safely at 1:07 PM with no one injured aboard.

Immediately after the threat, the airport authorities took urgent action and moved the aircraft to a secluded part of the airport for further testing. Emergency teams-the fire brigade, dog squad, police, and administrative officials also arrived there immediately.

In addition, the security forces are also searching the luggage of the passengers as well as the whole aircraft for safety issues.

It must be noted that this week has gone on to be the most disruptive so far for Indian aviation. More than 70 such domestic and international flights of Indian airlines received threats of bombs. However, mostly turned out to be hoax ones.

As many as six flights of Vistara, five each of IndiGo and Akasa Air received security threats, according to the airlines.

30 Flights Receive Bomb Threats Mostly Through Social Media

More than 30 flights received bomb threats mostly through social media since Saturday morning, sources said. In at least one of the flights, a note was found in the lavatory saying there was a bomb in the flight.

The five threatened flights include UK106 from Singapore to Mumbai, UK027 from Mumbai to Frankfurt, UK107 from Mumbai to Singapore, UK121 from Delhi to Bangkok, and UK131 from Mumbai to Colombo.

All the concerned authorities have been immediately informed and all the security procedures are being followed according to the authority and security agency guidelines, said the airline spokesperson in a statement.

Moreover, Vistara flight UK624 from Udaipur to Mumbai was screened for security by the authorities, and when it landed, the aircraft was driven to an isolation bay.

A note is said to have been recovered from the lavatory of the aircraft stating there is a bomb in the flight, a source in the know said.

The flight UK027 from Mumbai to Frankfurt had a security concern and landed safely at the Frankfurt airport. In the morning, the flight received a bomb threat on its social media.

Akasa Air received security threats against five of its flights – QP 1323 (Bengaluru to Guwahati), QP 1371 (Goa to Mumbai), QP 1373 (Bagdogra to Bengaluru), QP 1385 (Mumbai to Bagdogra), and QP 1405 (Hyderabad to Delhi).

As soon as the procedures were defined and after careful checks of all five aircraft, they were released, says an airline spokesperson.

IndiGo has issued statements for five flights in connection with threats received by them. Five flights are 6E17 (Mumbai to Istanbul), 6E11 (Delhi to Istanbul), 6E184 (Jodhpur to Delhi), 6E108 (Hyderabad to Chandigarh), and 6E58 (Jeddah to Mumbai).

On the two flights to Istanbul, the airline said that passengers had safely disembarked. The Jodhpur-Delhi flight, the carrier said, landed in the national capital and customers have disembarked the aircraft.

On the Hyderabad-Chandigarh flight as well as the Jeddah-Mumbai flight, IndiGo said that upon landing, the aircraft were isolated and all passengers were safely disembarked.

Among others, an Alliance Air flight from Kochi to Bengaluru received a bomb threat. While as many as 20 flights received threats, the concerned planes were brought to isolation bays and security protocol followed and hence passengers at some airports endured a lot of trouble.

The handle on X, through which some of the bomb threats to flights were issued, has been deactivated. Meanwhile, the civil aviation ministry plans to put in place strict norms to prevent incidents of hoax bomb threats to airlines, including placing the perpetrators in the no-fly list.
