Over 1.5 Lakh Candidates Register For PM Internship Scheme Within 24 hours Of Launch

The scheme was announced in the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The scheme is being implemented by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. The interns would be inducted into the top 500 companies in India from December 2.

Sources said more than 1.55 lakh candidates had applied for the scheme in the space of 24 hours after the launch of the PM Internship Scheme. The portal for the scheme was available for registration from 5 pm on October 12, and the scheme’s pilot project had targeted 1.25 lakh candidates, which it crossed in just 24 hours.

On Sunday, 1,55,109 candidates were registered on the portal. Students aged between 21 and 24 years can apply for the scheme that is being implemented by the corporate affairs ministry through the portal www.pminternship.mca.gov.in’. The internships under the scheme would commence from December 2. The scheme has provided for a monthly financial support of Rs 5,000 for 12 months and a one-time grant of Rs 6,000 for an intern.

Scheme Announced In Budget 2024

The ministry of corporate affairs said that the portal in the last one week has added more than 80,000 opportunities across 24 sectors, including oil, gas and energy, travel and hospitality, and automotive. “The portal ensures efficient access to internships across sectors with Aadhaar-based registration and tools like bio-data generation,” the ministry had said.

It estimates the initial cost to Rs 800 crore for the pilot project of the scheme. Incidentally, it was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, way back in Union Budget 2024, for affording college students the opportunity to take an internship in the top 500 companies in India for 12 months.

90,000 Opportunities In 737 Districts Of All States

More than 90,000 internship opportunities are being offered in 737 districts of all the states of the country for 24 sectors including agriculture, automobile, pharma, petroleum, energy, travel and hospitality, food, banking and financial services. Almost 45 per cent of the opportunity has been provided to five states – Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh.
