Rafael Nadal Announced Retirement, To Play Final Game In November

Spanish legend Rafael Nadal has announced that he will be ending his journey on the professional tennis circuit at the end of the season. His last would be for Spain in the Davis Cup finals against the Netherlands in Malaga next month. Rafael Nadal is famously known as ‘King of Clay’ and has won 22 Grand Slam titles.

Rafael Nadal announced that he would take a final curtain call from professional tennis next month after the Davis Cup finals in Malaga. In fact, the Davis Cup Finals will be their match with the Netherlands and the last appearance on the field for Nadal. He came out with this announcement, admitting to some seriously tough years in a video message since he sustained multiple injuries.

“I am here to let you know that I am retiring from professional tennis,” Nishikori said via a video message. “The reality is that it has been some tough years, the last two especially. I don’t feel like I have been able to play without limitations.”.

The fact is, Nadal has won Grand Slam tournaments an astonishing 22 times. The second-highest record in the history of men’s tennis. That’s something that could not even be beaten by him, as Novak Djokovic goes to the extent of winning 24 titles. However, when talking about the French Open, the Clay Court king Nadal was absolutely supreme, as he has won that particular tournament a tremendous 14 times.

In total, during his 18-year career, Rafael Nadal garnered 92 men’s singles titles and 11 doubles. All in all, Nadal played 1080 singles matches in tennis while losing only 227 of them as he wound up the career within his tenure from the year 2007. He made his last appearance on the court when he teamed up with current champion Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s doubles event but bowed out of the quarterfinals, losing to the fourth-seeded American duo Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram.

Despite not pulling it off in the subsequent events to clinch this category, he managed to guarantee himself an Olympic gold medal in the Men’s Singles event of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. At the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Games, he won gold in doubles.

Rafael Nadal will play his last game for the country in the Davis Cup Final from 19 to 24 November. “I think this is the right time to close the career, which has been too long and clearly much more winning than anyone could have thought,” he said. “I am really glad that my last tournament will be that of the final of the Davis Cup and my country.”
