GPay is now taking its offers to the next level by launching gold-backed secured loans in association with Muthoot Finance. Apart from this, Google also informed us that it will be launching the Google Safety Engineering Center in India in 2025.
Google also made two major announcements during its 10th edition of the ‘Google for India’ event on Thursday. The two include its partnerships with Muthoot Finance for offering gold-backed loans through GPay and the Hindi version of its AI assistant, Gemini Live, now available from October 3, 2024. Google India MD Roma Datta Chobey said that the world stores 11 percent of gold in India, and this new credit offer will avail loans priced affordably and with flexible usage options. It would be rolling out Google Assistant, which involves deep voice interaction, in Hindi and then eight more Indian languages.
“The release of Gemini Live is now going live in Hindi, and then eight more Indian languages—Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, and Urdu, will go live in the coming weeks,” she said. The coming weeks will also feature the AI overview, a feature in Google Search based on Gen-AI, in Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil.

Marking two decades of Google in India, the big tech further revealed plans to integrate open networks enabled by Beckn with its AI model, Gemini, through an ‘open-source Gemini Agent Framework’. This framework will be accessible to all Indian businesses and users, allowing them to search for and discover listings from electronics and agricultural products to jobs and courses.
Users can make transactions effortlessly across important sectors like agriculture and skill development, all from one interface that supports multiple languages through voice commands. In another area, Google announced it is poised to launch ‘Gemini Flash 1. 5’ in India, one of the first few globally, in the next few months. This upgrade will enable organizations to deploy and implement cloud and AI solutions securely, meaning that data can be stored and machine learning processing could be carried out entirely in India.

The Safety Engineering Center on Google The company said on Google that the Google Safety Engineering Centre will come to India in 2025. According to an accompanying statement, the internet giant has signed two long-term agreements intended at hastening the production of clean energy in India. It added that by 2026, two agreements would unlock 186 MW of new renewable energy capacity onto the Indian grid.
