It was in 1976 that Mithun began his glorious career with the critically acclaimed drama Mrigayaa of the legendary Mrinal Sen. In that film, Chakraborty won his very first National Film Award for Best Actor.
At 74, Mithun Chakraborty is going to be conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award as a tribute to his invaluable contribution to Indian cinema. This was the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on X, making hearts of millions of fans and film buffs worldwide jump with joy.
Saluting the Cinematic Heritage
Minster Vaishnaw cited the importance of this award while referring to the excellent cinematic life inspired by generations in the statement “Mithun Da’s wonderful cinematic life inspires generations!” Chakraborty is placed within an exclusive category of artists who have indeed had a long-lasting impact within the industry. This is because the Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest award that may be availed in Indian cinema. Social media has become flooded with congratulatory messages from fans indicating that this award is overdue for the actor.
A Grand Felicitation Awaits
The nation’s capital awaits him again with the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, when he receives a formal tribute at the 70th National Film Awards function on October 8. The prestigious Padma Bhushan Award given earlier this year was really the icing on the cake that made the former boy star a full-fledged cultural icon. This is just one more milestone in a career that has crossed decades and genres.
From Stardom to Politics The ace Mrinal Sen was behind the making of the National Award-winning drama, Mrigayaa in 1976, that acted like a launch pad for him to earn his first National Film Award for Best Actor. The decade saw him go quite famous with films like Disco Dancer, Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki, and Commando. We have ample cause to laugh at the sobriquet of “Disco Dancer” after just a few of his disco dancing scenes in a couple of tracks like “I Am a Disco Dancer” and “Jimmy Jimmy.”
Besides these films, politics has been another new activity for Chakraborty. He is only recently active in the political scenario. Ahead of the Assembly polls, Chakraborty deserted the All India Trinamool Congress party headed by Mamata Banerjee in April this year and joined the BJP.
