5 Important Breastfeeding Facts You Should Know, Let’s Know The Benefits And Challenges

Understand breastfeeding to have a hassle-free and enjoyable nursing process. It is only going to make nursing easier and enhance the bond with the baby.

The female body is very special, as it can do marvelous things like nurturing and sustaining life. Above all these marvelous gains one is in a position to harness through nursing, this is a pretty natural approach of feeding and bonding with the baby. Whether nursing for the first time or just looking to learn more about its benefits, this article comes to point out five key things about nursing in every gain and struggle and in all the help one’s body can provide.

Mother’s Breasts Change These Months

The body changes the breasts dramatically as a preparation to hold the growing baby inside it. The three most vital hormones that do this are progesterone, prolactin, and estrogen. These hormones would cause the breasts to swell up and become flaccid due to the stimulation of growth in the milk-generating glands within them. Finally, the area around the nipples known as the areola darkens. This is how the body would normally prepare to generate and feed the infant in breast milk. All these changes are due to the normal adaptation of the body brought about by the demands of the infant.

Breast milk develops in stages

When a baby is born, milk production begins. Here’s how milk production usually goes:

Days 0-5 Colostrum: This is a rich, thick fluid chock-full of antibodies. This will safeguard the newborn from infections for the first days.

Days 5-14: On about day 5 and beyond, milk supply increases. Mother’s breasts will become fuller and heavier as colostrum makes way for the more mature milk.

Days 14 and Beyond: This phase should have reached mature milk. It should be thinner at first but be rich enough toward the last feedings to thicken up and be full of nutrients.

Breast Over-engorgement Control

If a mom skips one or two feedings, then engorgement will likely occur due to the increase in milk production; the breasts become bigger and harder, which makes it difficult for the baby to latch. A tiny leak of milk before each feeding will ease off the tension and soften your breast tissue, so it won’t be as hard to latch your baby and will not hurt much. This may eradicate painful nipples and help the baby to latch more smoothly.

Pumping makes it much easier to leave fresh milk at home for the baby and otherwise allows for much greater ease in feeding your baby while running errands, working, or being on the go.

Milk can be pumped and stored to feed later if a feed or two is missed because pumps also decrease the discomfort caused by engorgement. If you decide to pump, get a breast pump and storage bags or containers that are suitable for your lifestyle.
