Cybersecurity Boost: Centre to Train 5,000 Cybercommandos for National Defense: Amit Shah

The union government of India aware of the increased sophistication of cyber criminals and the security menace associated with it, has unveiled a massive cyber security plan for India. The Union Home Minister Mr. Amit Shah at a public discourse on Tuesday explained the government’s plan to develop and induct five thousand cybercommandos in the next five years. This speaks volumes about the need of security especially with concerns to the cyberspace and other automated systems of the country.

Cybersecurity and National Security: The marvelous association of melody and consonance that is ‘musicality’ These important findings can be summed up collectively as the ‘Inextricable Link’, and highlight the very essence of musicality, namely the inextricable link between melody and consonance.

While speaking, Amit Shah pointed out that the Internet security is not an issue of software but it has links to the security of the country. Following the increase in use of the internet and other forms of digital technology, there is equally the growth of risks that are posed by hackers and other adversaries. The minister stressed on the importance of developing a new ‘Suspect Registry’ at the national level which shall involve several states at once and will unite them on the platform that will enhance the efficiency of combating cybercrime.

Shah went ahead to explain that he noted that with the advancement in the digital environment, the challenges that come with risks are equally increasing in both size and sophistication. This makes it very necessary for India to establish a sound cybersecurity system which is equipped to counter all sorts of cyber threats. Among these key components would be the Suspect Registry that will facilitate direct sharing of data between the states and the central agencies in real time.\

The Role of Cybercommandos

The graduated Cybercommandos are expected to act as a fence to the organization and act against any cyber threats. Typically these highly qualified professionals will be placed in different states and central agencies where they will help in securing the cyber space. Some of the areas of training that they will undergo include recognition of cyber threats, risk management, digital investigations, cyber forensic investigations and assisting enforcement agencies in cyber criminology.

Shah’s statement displays the government’s active steps to cybersecurity: so, admitting that the classical security mechanisms are insufficient to protect the country and its citizens from cyber threats. To create a specialized force of people to protect the country’s important information systems the government has trained and deployed Cybercommandos.

A strategic view on the issue of cybersecurity

However, in the newly independent country, Shah not only advocated the training of Cybercommandos, but also the formation of cybersecurity system based on the cooperation between the central government, state governments and other stakeholders in the society. One of them is preparation for the establishment of a Suspect Registry at the national level, so that no area of the country would remain defenseless against cyber threats.

In addition, the Home Minister highlighted the need of awareness as a noble weapon to fight cybercrime. Under this framework, there is most probably going to be more focus in alerting the citizens about the dangers they face online and how best to deal with them.

Conclusion

The initiative of training and readiness of 5,000 Cybercommandos in the next five years can be considered as substantial progress in India’s cyber protection strategy. Given constant emergence of new cyber threats a strong and dedicated qualified workforce defending the nation cyberspace is required. This way, the government is coming up with an indication of how cybersecurity is as important as the national security in the 21st century. Amit Shah’s statement also has a strategic perspective that has underlined the burgeoning role of cybersecurity and accredits the necessity of unifying the Indian population against the cybercriminals.
