Jammu and Kashmir News: Kashmir Dispute Needs Resolution Under UNSC Framework, Says Pakistan’s Foreign Office

Pakistan has once again clearly restated its position on the question of Kashmir asserting that the ‘Kashmir issue’ is a proven international issue that requires to be addressed as per UNSC resolutions only. They were given by the Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch while reacting to recent remarks of India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Jammu and Kashmir.

During the press briefing, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch was quite adamant in saying that the issue of Kashmir continues to be an important factor for Pakistan as well as for the rest of the global community. She pointed out that the conflict that now lasts for several decades is connected with the principles of self-determination and human rights, as it has been mentioned in the UNSC resolutions. Baloch urged the international community to recognize the fact that the conflict over the territory of Kashmir remains unsolved and urged India into compliance with international legal obligations.

The above statement was made following S. Jaishankar’s statement on Friday that he made known a new era where uninterrupted dialogue with Pakistan is no more and India has changed its stance towards its Western neighbor. Indian foreign minister Jaishankar stressed that India will not talk to Pakistan without seeing a real action against terrorism in the country. He further added that the circumstances prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir have always been India’s internal affairs and there is no other nation that can have interference.

In her response, Baloch dismissed all the points raised by Jaishankar and pointed out that the issue of Kashmir is not only a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan but it falls under International concern. Pakistan’s stand was restated by her on the ground that the fate of the disputed territory of Kashmir should be determined with involvement of the UN and referendum as decided by the UNSC. Baloch also expressed India’s position on dialogue and said that it has not shown any intention to have a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan to find a peaceful solution to the issue.

He also talks about the continued neglect of human rights of people in Indian occupied Kashmir saying that that situation remains bad and requires intervention of the international community. But she called on the international society to pressure India into releasing members of the political and civil society from detention, specifically the people of Kashmir.

The issue of Kashmir has been one which has caused many conflict situations between the two nations that are India and Pakistan. On its part, India has always held that Kashmir is an illogical part of India while Pakistan’s position has always been that the future status of the territory should be ascertained by a referendum to be supervised internationally.

In the last statement, the spokesperson of the Foreign Office urged the global community to stand with the people of Gilgit Baltistan and Indian administered Kashmir, and support the Kashmiris in their political struggle for right to self-determination without any external interference and with the respect to the UN Charter and the UNSC resolutions.
