The Central Government has recently declared major reshuffling measures in two of India’s major security establishments. On Wednesday, IPS officer Rajwinder Singh Bhatti was appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), while IPS officer Daljit Singh Chaudhary was named the Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF). These positions are important because both of these forces have monumental responsibilities of ensuring the security and protection of the nation and its significant assets.
Rajwinder Singh Bhatti Remits Office of CISF
CISF will be headed by Rajwinder Singh Bhatti, a highly qualified IPS officer trained in both India and Australia. Bhatti is the IPS officer of the 1990 batch, and he has a vast experience in the law enforcement agencies of India. Prior to this appointment, he was working as the Special Deputy Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The minister was confident that given his over three decades of experience in handling internal security issues and his leadership qualities, the CISF whom he has nominated to head would benefit from his expertise.
CISF is a paramilitary organization affiliated to the Ministry of Home Affairs, and its main responsibility is the protection of sensitive structures within the country such as the airports, seaports, and nuclear power plants. His appointment occurs at this time when the CISF is already being called upon to protect sensitive establishments and provide support to several government schemes such as the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.

After the appointment of new Director General of BSF, it will be headed by Daljit Singh Chaudhary. Another successful IPS officer of the 1990-batch is Daljit Singh Chaudhary appointed to the post of the BSF DG. Chaudhary has vast experience in border management and counter-insurgency operations since he has served different states and central forces assignments. Before being appointed in the new position, Chaudhary worked as the Special DG in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) which led to several significant operations.
The BSF is charged with the responsibility of defending the borders of India from Pakistan and Bangladesh and is central to the security of the country. Chaudhary joins the BSF at a time when it is grappling with various issues such as cross border intrusion, contraband running, and other shifts and changes in border protection in the region.
A National Security Imperative for Strategic Appointments
Appointments of Bhatti and Chaudhary are political decisions made by Central Government, indicating on improvements in management and functionality of Indian security forces. These two officers have immense experience and track record of effective leadership and this will be essential when they assume their new responsibilities in the CISF and BSF respectively.
With these appointments, the Centre wants to bolster the defense forces in the country and equip them to address contemporary threats that are inherent in the force.
