Syed Amjad Hussain, born in Sheikhpura district of Bihar and an alumnus of Delhi Public School Sheikhpura and S.A.D.N. Convent School Sheikhpura, recently shared significant insights on Sufism and social harmony at a summit held at the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Auditorium of the West Bengal Urdu Academy. Amjad Hussain, who is an undergraduate student at Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology and is conducting in-depth research on Sufism, emphasized the depth and social relevance of Sufism during his speech.
Amjad Hussain highlighted the essence of understanding Sufism, stating, “To understand Sufism, one’s heart must be pure, as the term ‘Sufi’ itself means ‘pure’.” According to him, the core objective of Sufism is to promote love, tolerance, and respect for humanity.
He also discussed the beginnings of Sufism in Bihar, noting, “In 1180, Imam Taj Faqih arrived and settled in Maner Sharif near Patna, where people of all religions still visit. Faqih’s grandson Yahya Maneri and great-grandson Sharafuddin Yahya Maneri played a significant role in fostering social harmony and brotherhood.”
Emphasizing the importance of preserving social harmony, Amjad Hussain strongly condemned elements that spread discord and conflict within society. He believes that such elements contribute to division and intolerance.
Amjad Hussain also stressed the need for mutual respect and understanding among all religions and sects. He asserted that despite diversity, it is crucial for people to respect each other’s beliefs and cultural backgrounds to maintain social peace and harmony.
During the summit, Amjad Hussain discussed the historical significance of Sufism and its relevance in the current context. His insights underscored the depth of Sufism and its contributions to society, helping attendees understand the important role of Sufism and social harmony.
