Celebrating Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji’s Legacy: Sachkhand Foundation’s Green Initiative at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, the Sachkhand Foundation, a prominent NGO based in Delhi, organized a unique event to commemorate the upcoming birth anniversary of Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji Maharaj, the eighth Sikh Guru . Known for their dedication to community service and environmental conservation, the foundation celebrated the occasion with a Rukh Langar, or plant distribution drive, at the renowned Gurudwara Shri Bangla Sahib in Delhi.

The event commenced at 11 AM with an Ardaas, a Sikh prayer seeking blessings for all. Following the prayer, the plant distribution drive began and continued for several hours. During this period, visitors to the Gurudwara received high-quality medicinal plants, including Carom Seeds, Curry leaves, etc. These plants, known for their therapeutic properties, were distributed as a gesture of promoting health and well-being.

In preparation for the event, over 5,000 plants were transported from a local nursery in Central Delhi to the Gurudwara premises a day prior. The Sachkhand Foundation mobilized more than 75 volunteers who dedicated their time to collecting, transporting, and distributing the plants. The volunteers also educated the recipients about the medicinal benefits of the plants, furthering the foundation’s mission of health awareness and environmental stewardship.

The Sachkhand Foundation, established in 2021 by Taranjot Singh Gulati and his friends amid the COVID-19 pandemic, has rapidly expanded its reach and impact. From its inception, the organization has grown to include thousands of volunteers across Northern India, including states such as Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and the National Capital Territory of Delhi.

The foundation’s work is rooted in the Sikh principle of “Sarbat da Bhala,” which means “welfare of all.” This guiding philosophy is evident in their diverse range of projects, including Project Disaster Relief, Environment Protection, Project Hifazat, Warm Winter, Soothing Summer, and Education. Each initiative reflects their commitment to serving the community and addressing pressing social and environmental issues.

In addition to their current projects, the Sachkhand Foundation has ambitious plans for the future. Upcoming initiatives include the Medicine Langar, which aims to distribute free medical and medicinal aid to those in need. This project is poised to further their mission of promoting health and wellness, especially among the underprivileged.

The Rukh Langar event not only honored Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji’s birth anniversary but also highlighted the foundation’s innovative approach to environmental conservation and community service. By combining the distribution of medicinal plants with education on their benefits, the foundation effectively promoted environmental awareness and health consciousness among the visitors.

The Sachkhand Foundation’s commitment to service and the environment exemplifies the enduring relevance of religious aspects of selfless service and the concept of Sewa. Through their dedicated efforts, they continue to make a significant impact on society, embodying the spirit of “Sarbat da Bhala” and paving the way for a healthier, more sustainable future.
