Monsoon Session of Parliament to Commence Tomorrow: Finance Minister to Present Budget

New Delhi, July 21, 2024 – The Monsoon session of the Indian Parliament is set to begin on July 22, 2024, with sessions convening in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. The monsoon session holds significant importance as it provides an apt time and platform for parliamentarians to deliberate and discuss critical national issues in both houses of Parliament.

The key highlights of this session will be the presentation of the Union Budget, also known as the Annual Financial Statement by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha on July 23, 2024. This budget presentation follows the interim budget that was delivered on February 1, 2024. The full budget is expected to address various economic challenges and outline the government’s fiscal strategy for the coming year as per the President’s vision.

Historically, The Monsoon session was a period for important legislative discussions. In recent years, it has covered debates on significant matters such as the abrogation of Article 370 and other crucial legislations. This year, the government has prepared a strong legislative agenda with several key bills scheduled for discussion and approval.

This session will be the first of the three regular parliamentary sessions for the 18TH Lok Sabha, including the Budget, Monsoon, and Winter sessions. The Monsoon session is scheduled to run from July 22, 2024, to August 12, 2024. To manage the parliamentary business effectively, the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Om Birla, has constituted the Business Advisory Committee, which comprises 14 members.
