Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Varanasi and Bihar, marking his first tour after assuming office for the third consecutive term. His itinerary includes significant events and initiatives aimed at supporting farmers and empowering rural women, alongside cultural and educational engagements.
Visit to Varanasi: Honoring Farmers and Cultural Rituals
On Tuesday, PM Modi will travel to Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, to participate in the PM Kisan Samman Sammelan. This event underscores the government’s dedication to farmer welfare through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. As part of the program, the Prime Minister will release Rs 20,000 crore in income support to over 92.6 million farmers via Direct Benefit Transfer. This installment, which Modi authorized as his first official act upon taking office, reflects the government’s steadfast commitment to supporting farmers across the nation. To date, more than 110 million eligible farmer families have benefited from over Rs. 3.04 trillion under PM-KISAN.
In addition to the financial support, PM Modi will present certificates to over 30,000 women from Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the Krishi Sakhi Convergence Program (KSCP). This initiative aims to transform rural India by empowering women as Krishi Sakhis, or para-extension workers, through specialized training and certification. This effort aligns with the objectives of the “Lakhpati Didi” Program, which strives to create a significant number of women millionaires in rural areas.
Later in the evening, around 7 PM, PM Modi will witness the revered Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, a significant spiritual event that draws numerous devotees and tourists. Following this, at approximately 8 PM, he will perform ‘pooja’ and ‘darshan’ at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, highlighting the cultural and religious significance of his visit to Varanasi. Arvind Mishra, the BJP’s district media in-charge, stated that the Prime Minister’s visit to Kashi is also a gesture of gratitude to the voters of his constituency, acknowledging their support in the recent Lok Sabha elections where he secured a victory for the third consecutive time.
Inauguration of Nalanda University Campus in Bihar
On Wednesday, PM Modi will be in Bihar to inaugurate the new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir. This inauguration is a testament to India’s collaborative efforts with East Asia Summit (EAS) countries, aimed at revitalizing an ancient seat of learning. The ceremony will be attended by dignitaries, including Heads of Missions from 17 countries.
The state-of-the-art Nalanda University campus features two academic blocks with 40 classrooms, accommodating around 1900 students. The campus boasts two auditoria with 300 seats each, a student hostel for 550 students, an international center, an amphitheater with a 2000-person capacity, a faculty club, and a sports complex. Designed as a ‘Net Zero’ green campus, it is equipped with sustainable facilities such as a solar plant, water treatment and recycling plants, and 100 acres of water bodies, reflecting a commitment to environmental sustainability.
Nalanda University holds historical significance, being one of the world’s first residential universities established around 1,600 years ago. The original Nalanda’s ruins were declared a UNESCO Heritage Site in 2016, further emphasizing the university’s historical and cultural importance.
PM Modi’s visit to Varanasi and Bihar underscores his administration’s focus on agricultural welfare, rural empowerment, and educational development. Through these initiatives, the Prime Minister aims to bolster the socio-economic fabric of rural India, while also paying homage to the cultural and historical heritage of the nation.
