Senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari has once again assumed the role of Minister of Road Transport and Highways. On Wednesday, Gadkari expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for reassigning him this pivotal role in what is being referred to as Modi 3.0. He assured that, under Modi Ji’s visionary leadership, India will witness the rapid development of world-class, modern infrastructure.
Popularly known as the ‘Highway Man of India’, Gadkari is celebrated for his extensive contributions to India’s road infrastructure. Over the past decade, he has been instrumental in constructing more than 54,858 kilometers of national highways. This remarkable achievement underscores his commitment to enhancing the country’s connectivity and boosting its economic development.
At 67 years old, Gadkari hails from Nagpur, Maharashtra, and holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Minister of Road Transport and Highways. His tenure has been marked by ambitious projects and efficient execution. One such significant project under his leadership is the 1,386-kilometer Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, which the ministry aims to complete by December this year. This expressway is poised to revolutionize travel between two of India’s most crucial economic hubs, reducing travel time and promoting trade.
Gadkari’s political journey is equally impressive. A former BJP president with close ties to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he has been elected three times from the Nagpur seat, a constituency that houses the RSS headquarters. His association with the NDA government as a cabinet minister was reaffirmed when he was inducted once again on Sunday.
Gadkari’s national political career took off in 2009 when he was appointed the BJP president. His leadership skills and dedication were further recognized in 2014 when he contested the Lok Sabha elections from Nagpur and won, securing a ministerial position at the Centre. Since then, Gadkari has handled various key portfolios, including Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, and Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. Each of these roles allowed him to implement significant reforms and drive substantial progress.
Before his ascent to national politics, Gadkari served as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, representing the Nagpur Graduates’ constituency from 1989 to 2014. His long-standing political career at both state and national levels is a testament to his dedication and ability to deliver results.
Under Gadkari’s stewardship, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is set to achieve new milestones. His vision aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s broader goals of transforming India’s infrastructure landscape, making transportation more efficient, and fostering economic growth. Gadkari’s proven track record, marked by his nickname ‘Highway Man of India’, instills confidence that India’s infrastructure will continue to evolve and improve, setting new standards for modernity and efficiency.
As Gadkari takes charge, the focus remains on accelerating the pace of infrastructure development. Projects like the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway symbolize the transformative potential of his leadership. With his extensive experience and unwavering commitment, Gadkari is poised to lead India’s road transport and highways sectors into a new era of innovation and progress.
