Rajasthan Trade and Industry Bodies Advocate for a Solar Energy Hub

Trade and industry organizations in Rajasthan are urging the state government to establish Rajasthan as a prominent hub for solar panel manufacturing. The state’s significant potential in solar energy, coupled with its status as a leading producer of solar power in India, forms the basis for this ambitious proposition.

Rajasthan’s solar energy sector is burgeoning, yet there is still a vast expanse of untapped potential. Recognizing these immense possibilities, various trade and industrial bodies have begun advocating for the development of a dedicated solar panel manufacturing hub. This move, they argue, will bring substantial benefits to the state’s economy and its residents.

The demand for electricity in Rajasthan is rising at an annual rate of 8 to 10 percent. To meet this growing demand sustainably, the state government has set a target to derive 43 percent of the total electricity consumption from solar energy by 2030. In support of this goal, 15,195.12 megawatts (MW) of solar power plants were installed in the state last year.

Suresh Aggarwal, President of the Federation of Rajasthan Trade and Industry (FORTI), emphasized the potential in the solar energy sector and the need for state government support in promoting solar panel manufacturing within Rajasthan. “For this, separate manufacturing hubs should be created. There are only a few solar panel producers in the state. For the solar energy plants installed here, solar panels are bought from either Gujarat or China. If the government promotes solar panel manufacturing here, then its revenue will increase. Also, it will generate employment,” said Aggarwal. He added that FORTI plans to present a detailed report to the state government highlighting the investment opportunities in this sector.

Prem Biyani, Executive President of the All Rajasthan Trade and Industries Association (ARTIA), echoed these sentiments, stressing the need for increased solar energy production within the state. “We have been demanding production ramp up of solar energy in the state for long. This is because there is a big difference between the prices of electricity bought from other states and solar energy produced in the state,” Biyani said. He also called for the removal of barriers that hinder the establishment of solar power plants and advocated for the promotion of solar panel industries to boost employment opportunities in Rajasthan.

The economic benefits of establishing a solar panel manufacturing hub in Rajasthan are manifold. Firstly, it would significantly reduce the reliance on importing solar panels from other states or countries, thereby retaining more revenue within the state. Secondly, the development of such a hub would stimulate local industries, create numerous jobs, and contribute to the overall economic development of the region.

Moreover, given the state’s favorable climate conditions for solar energy production, the expansion of local manufacturing capabilities could position Rajasthan as a leader in the renewable energy sector. This initiative aligns with the broader national goals of increasing renewable energy usage and reducing carbon emissions.

In conclusion, the call from Rajasthan’s trade and industry bodies to develop the state into a solar energy hub is a strategic move that promises economic growth, enhanced employment, and sustainable energy solutions. As the state government considers these proposals, the potential for a transformative impact on Rajasthan’s energy landscape and economic prosperity becomes increasingly apparent.
