The swearing-in of Narendra Modi for a historic third consecutive term as Prime Minister of India signals a strong message of political and economic stability amid rising global uncertainty, according to the US India Business Council (USIBC). USIBC President Atul Keshap emphasized the significance of this event, noting that it highlights India’s enduring commitment to growth and stability.
On Sunday, Narendra Modi took the oath as Prime Minister, marking the beginning of his third term in office. This milestone places Modi at the helm of a 72-member Union Council of Ministers, leading the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. Keshap lauded the Indian electorate for endorsing Modi’s pro-growth policies, which have positioned India as a crucial player in global democracy, prosperity, and technological advancement, making it a vital partner to the United States.
“The Indian electorate has reaffirmed its support for policies that foster economic growth, positioning India as a key anchor of democracy, prosperity, and technological innovation. This continuity is crucial in times of rising geostrategic uncertainty,” Keshap told PTI in an interview following the swearing-in ceremony.
Ronak D Desai, a partner at the Paul Hastings law firm and a leading India practitioner, echoed these sentiments. Desai pointed out that a third Modi term ensures sustained momentum in US-India relations, signaling a robust and enduring bilateral partnership. “Both nations have diligently forged and strengthened a partnership that spans virtually every conceivable area of human cooperation, reflecting a deep commitment to mutual growth and prosperity,” Desai stated.
Desai also highlighted the strong bipartisan support for US-India relations in both Washington and New Delhi, which ensures the resilience of this partnership despite any political shifts. Under Modi’s leadership, the US-India relationship is poised to continue its impressive trajectory, driven by shared interests and values.
In a separate statement, the Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS) expressed optimism about India’s future under Modi’s leadership. FIIDS anticipates that India will continue its journey towards becoming the third-largest economy and an influential global power, effectively leading both the global east and the global south. “We are eager to see India’s progress towards becoming a global economic powerhouse under Modi’s leadership,” said Khanderao Kand, President and Chief of Policies and Strategy at FIIDS.
Kand also highlighted the expected continuation of several key infrastructural initiatives during Modi’s third term. Programs such as Make In India, Digital India, Startup India, Clean India, and Sagarmala, as well as efforts to extend electricity and development to the most remote tribal villages, are anticipated to uplift the entire Indian population and drive significant economic growth.
Overall, Modi’s third term is seen as a harbinger of stability and continuity in India’s domestic and international policies. The strong mandate from the electorate not only reinforces Modi’s leadership but also strengthens India’s position as a reliable and influential partner on the global stage. As the nation embarks on this new chapter, the continued focus on economic growth, technological innovation, and robust bilateral relations with the United States will be key to navigating the complexities of the global landscape.
