Kangana Ranaut Attacked by CISF Constable at Chandigarh Airport

In a dramatic turn of events, actor and newly elected BJP MP Kangana Ranaut was allegedly slapped and verbally abused by a female CISF constable at Chandigarh airport on Thursday. This altercation occurred just two days after Ranaut’s victory in the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh, adding a layer of political intrigue to the incident.

The constable in question, Kulwinder Kaur, reportedly lashed out at Ranaut due to her controversial stance on the farmers’ protests. Following the incident, Kaur was suspended, and an FIR was lodged against her. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), responsible for airport security, has initiated a court of inquiry to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Ranaut recounted the incident, stating, “She hit me in the face and started abusing me. When I asked her why, she mentioned her support for the farmer protests.” Expressing concern over the situation, Ranaut added, “I am safe, but my concern is that terrorism is increasing in Punjab… How do we handle that?”

A video circulating on social media captures an agitated Kaur explaining her actions. In the video, Kaur mentions that Ranaut’s comments about farmers being paid to protest in Delhi deeply affected her, as her own mother was among the protesters. This personal connection seemed to have triggered the aggressive response from the constable.

Kulwinder Kaur has been with the CISF since 2009 and was assigned to the aviation security group at Chandigarh airport in 2021. Until this incident, her record was clean, with no prior inquiries or punishments. Interestingly, her husband also works at the same airport, adding another dimension to the unfolding drama.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken up the matter, with its chairperson, Rekha Sharma, calling for strict action. Sharma expressed her dismay on social media, stating that those responsible for airport security should not breach it themselves.

Jai Ram Thakur, Leader of the Opposition and former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, condemned the incident, labeling it as “very unfortunate” and demanding action against the constable. Similarly, Vikramaditya Singh, the State Public Works Minister and Ranaut’s rival in the recent elections, also condemned the incident and called for appropriate action against Kaur.

Kangana Ranaut, a four-time National Award-winning actress, made her political debut in the recent elections, defeating Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh by over 74,000 votes. Known for her outspoken support of the ruling party, Ranaut has been a prominent voice on various contentious issues, including the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the farmers’ protests.

During the farmers’ agitation against the three farm laws, Ranaut found herself in hot water when she allegedly misidentified a woman farmer from Punjab, calling her Bilkis Bano, a well-known figure from the anti-CAA protests. Ranaut’s tweet suggested that the “Shaheen Bagh dadi” was participating in the farmers’ protests for money, a claim that sparked widespread criticism and forced her to delete the tweet.
