Stellantis Appoints Shailesh Hazela as CEO and Managing Director of India Operations

Automaker Stellantis announced on Saturday the appointment of Shailesh Hazela

Shailesh Hazela as the new CEO and Managing Director of its India operations. Hazela steps into the role previously held by Aditya Jairaj, who will be relocating to the United States.

Before this new role, Hazela served as Vice President of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain for India and the Asia Pacific region at Stellantis. His extensive background and proven expertise in driving growth and innovation are expected to bring significant value to the company, as highlighted in Stellantis’ official statement.

Since joining Stellantis in September 2022, Hazela has been pivotal in leveraging and expanding the supply base across India, ASEAN, Korea, Japan, and other regions. His efforts have focused on strengthening Stellantis’ supply chain capabilities in India and the Asia Pacific region, ensuring a robust foundation for the company’s operations.

“Shailesh’s strategic vision and extensive experience will be instrumental in driving growth and innovation in the Indian market. We are confident that Shailesh will lead the company fostering sustainable business growth,” said Ashwani Muppasani, COO of Stellantis’ India and Asia Pacific (IAP) region.

Stellantis operates three manufacturing plants in India, located in Ranjangaon, Hosur, and Thiruvallur. In addition, the company has an ICT hub in Hyderabad, a Software Centre in Bengaluru, and two R&D centers in Chennai and Pune. This extensive infrastructure underscores Stellantis’ commitment to the Indian market and its strategic importance in the company’s global operations.

India stands out as a critical manufacturing hub for Stellantis, being the only country where the company produces four Jeep models—Wrangler, Compass, Meridian, and Grand Cherokee—outside North America. Additionally, India is the sole producer of the Citroen C5 Aircross outside France. This unique positioning highlights India’s vital role in Stellantis’ global production and distribution network.

Hazela’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to further bolster Stellantis’ footprint in India. With his vast experience and leadership skills, he is expected to drive the company’s growth trajectory in the Indian automotive market, fostering innovation and sustainable business practices.

In conclusion, Shailesh Hazela’s new role as CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India operations marks a significant step in the company’s journey towards growth and innovation in the region. With a strong manufacturing presence and strategic vision, Stellantis is well-positioned to continue its success in the competitive Indian automotive market.
