Universal Vulkaan to Introduce 30 Leonardo Helicopters in India by 2027

Universal Vulkaan Aviation (UVA), the exclusive distributor for Leonardo Helicopters in India, has announced a significant expansion plan for the Indian market. By 2027, the company aims to bring 30 Leonardo helicopters into the country, capitalizing on the growing demand and readiness for expansion within the Indian aviation sector.

Based in New Delhi, UVA is set to introduce a mix of 16 new and 14 pre-owned helicopters, catering to a variety of market needs. This strategic move follows the pre-sales contract signed in January 2024 for five AW09 machines. Additionally, UVA has ordered 11 helicopters from models such as the AW109 Trekker, AW139, and AW169 from Leonardo Helicopters, complementing the 14 pre-owned aircraft, which include the AW119Kx and AW109 Trekker.

The diverse range of helicopters features seating capacities from 5 to 15, addressing different segments of the market. Karan Sethi, Sales Director at UVA, emphasized the potential for growth in the Indian market, noting that their product portfolio in both single and twin-engine categories will continue to thrive. He highlighted opportunities in the VIP segment, religious tourism, operator markets, and Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS). Additionally, there is a substantial demand for replacement aircraft.

Harinder Jeet Singh Commar, Partner at UVA, expressed optimism about the AW09 model, which is expected to be a game-changer in the single-engine market. The AW09, capable of carrying up to eight passengers, promises quicker deliveries thanks to an efficient distribution process.

The executives revealed ongoing discussions with charter operators and other entities, indicating a robust interest and demand in the Indian market. This expansion underscores UVA’s commitment to strengthening its presence and meeting the dynamic needs of the Indian aviation sector over the next three years.

Universal Vulkaan’s strategic initiative to introduce these helicopters aligns with the growing needs of various sectors in India, ensuring that the company remains at the forefront of the aviation market expansion.
