Over the past decade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly transformed India’s image on the global stage, positioning himself as a true global leader. This transformation has been recognized and praised by members of the Indian-American community, including prominent figures such as Dr. Bindukumar Kansupada, a Philadelphia-based cardiologist.
“Modi Ji is changing the image of Indians not just in India but worldwide. He is now considered a global leader,” Dr. Kansupada stated in an interview with PTI. He emphasized Modi’s role in reviving Indian pride, culture, and ancient knowledge, particularly yoga, mindfulness, and Ayurveda.
Dr. Kansupada, an IIT alumnus and Board of Directors member of the WHEELS Global Foundation, shared his insights during his attendance at the two-day annual summit, Desis Decides, organized by Indian-American Impact. The event, which took place on Wednesday, featured an address by Vice President Kamala Harris.
Reflecting on India’s educational progress under Modi’s leadership, Dr. Kansupada highlighted the dramatic increase in the number of medical schools. “When I went to med school, there were only four medical schools in Mumbai. Now, India boasts over 700 medical schools, with at least one in every district. The number of IITs has also grown from just five in 1970 to 23 today,” he remarked.
The growth in education has been accompanied by an overall rise in confidence among Indian youth. Dr. Kansupada noted that the development of tourism, particularly religious tourism (Tirth tourism), has surged, alongside the expansion of infrastructure, such as airports. This growth reflects an improvement in the happiness index and a growing sense of self-sufficiency and national pride among Indians.
Dr. Kansupada also speculated that the younger generation of Indian-Americans might increasingly find themselves engaging with India for business and community affairs due to its emerging status as a center of excellence. “The country’s development is such that even Indian-Americans may need to reconnect for professional and community reasons,” he said.
Addressing the sense of pride instilled by Modi’s leadership, Dr. Kansupada highlighted the positive feedback he has received from various segments of the Indian population. “What I’m hearing from people in India, particularly the middle class, is an overwhelming support and love for India and Modi. He has united different facets of India, representing Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Tribal people alike,” he said.
Dr. Kansupada is optimistic about Modi’s future prospects, predicting a strong performance in upcoming elections. “If more people participate in voting, I believe Modi will win. He is a leader for all demographics and has the potential to continue uniting the country.”
Under Narendra Modi’s leadership, India has not only seen significant internal development but has also enhanced its stature on the global platform. His efforts in modernizing education, promoting cultural heritage, and improving infrastructure have fostered a renewed sense of national pride and global recognition. As Modi continues to lead, the Indian diaspora and global community watch with keen interest, acknowledging his role in shaping the future of India and its place in the world.
