In a significant political move, actor Shekhar Suman and former Congress spokesperson Radhika Khera officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, during the ongoing third phase of the Lok Sabha elections. Their induction ceremony, held at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, was attended by party leader Vinod Tawde.
Suman’s entry into the BJP has sparked curiosity about his political aspirations. Speaking at the ceremony, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “Till yesterday I did not know that I would be sitting here today because many things in life happen knowingly or unknowingly. I have come here with very positive thinking and I would like to thank God that he ordered me to come here.”
Reports suggest that Suman had been awaiting the success of his latest web series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’ before venturing into politics. He clarified, “I did not want people to assume that I had joined politics because I had nothing else to do.” The actor added, “Log kahi ye na kahe ki mere paas karne ko kuch nahi tha, isliye politics join ki. Heeramandi has now become a global hit.”
‘Heeramandi’, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and premiered on Netflix, has garnered international attention for its exploration of various aspects of a woman’s journey through trials and tribulations, featuring a star-studded cast.
On the other hand, Radhika Khera’s decision to join the BJP came after her resignation from the Congress party on Sunday. Khera cited disrespectful behavior within the Congress’s Chhattisgarh unit as the reason for her departure. Despite lodging complaints with senior Congress leaders such as Sachin Pilot, Jairam Ramesh, Bhupesh Baghel, and Pawan Khera, alleging no action was taken.
The entry of these prominent figures into the BJP highlights the shifting political landscape and the BJP’s continued efforts to expand its reach. Suman and Khera’s transition from their respective fields to active politics underscores the growing convergence between entertainment and politics in India.
As the Lok Sabha elections progress, the BJP’s latest recruits are expected to play crucial roles in shaping political narratives and strategies, adding further intrigue to the already intense electoral contest.
