Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a bold assertion on Monday, declaring that the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government in Odisha will see its end on June 4, 2024, coinciding with the announcement of assembly election results. Speaking at his inaugural election rally in the state, Modi urged the people to embrace the BJP to propel Odisha to the forefront of Indian states.
In a veiled jab at BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Modi emphasized the need for a leader who comprehends Odia language and culture, suggesting a disconnect between the incumbent government and the state’s ethos.
“The BJP will usher in a new era of progress with a double-engine government in Odisha. The countdown to the BJD government’s expiration begins on June 4, 2024,” Modi proclaimed during the Berhampur rally.
Highlighting perceived failures of the current administration, Modi pointed out that Odisha has not fully availed itself of benefits from schemes like Ayushman Bharat Yojana, attributing this to the BJD government’s lack of implementation.
Despite being endowed with fertile land, abundant mineral resources, and a vast coastline, Modi lamented the persistent poverty in Odisha, promising a transformative agenda under BJP’s governance.
“We have outlined a visionary manifesto promising jobs for the youth, empowering women, and ensuring healthcare for senior citizens. What we promise, we deliver,” Modi asserted.
With the assembly and Lok Sabha elections coinciding in Odisha, Modi extended an invitation to the BJP’s swearing-in ceremony on June 10, pledging immediate implementation of Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, a scheme resisted by the current government.
Addressing concerns over cultural representation in governance, Modi stressed the importance of leaders who are deeply rooted in Odia culture and tradition for expediting the state’s development.
Seeking a mandate for the BJP, Modi assured the people of Odisha that their state would ascend to the top rank within five years under his leadership.
Blaming the Congress and the BJD for Odisha’s developmental lag despite its abundant resources, Modi portrayed the BJP as the sole hope for progress in the state.
“The BJP has honored Odisha by appointing its daughter to the highest office in the country. With President Droupadi Murmu’s guidance, I am determined to accomplish much for the state,” Modi declared.
Responding to Modi’s prediction, senior BJD leader VK Pandian reaffirmed Naveen Patnaik’s imminent sixth consecutive term as Chief Minister, slated for June 9.
As Odisha braces for its crucial electoral battle, Modi’s pronouncement sets the stage for a fierce contest, with the fate of the state hanging in the balance.
