In a proud moment for the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the Botanical Garden metro station clinched the prestigious title of the “best metro station” on the occasion of DMRC’s 30th foundation day. Alongside, the Shastri Park depot was also honored as the best metro depot, as announced in a statement by the DMRC on Friday.
The DMRC celebrated its significant milestone at Bharat Mandapam, marking three decades of transforming Delhi’s public transport landscape. Among the highlights of the event were the annual Managing Director’s awards, recognizing the outstanding contributions of over 70 employees in the past year.
Priti Kumari, the senior station manager, was lauded as the ‘metro woman of the year’, while Mohammad Abdussueb Ahamad, head traffic controller, was honored with the ‘metro man of the year’ award.
The Botanical Garden metro station’s recognition as the best metro station underscores its efficiency, cleanliness, and passenger satisfaction. Similarly, the Shastri Park depot’s accolade reaffirms its commitment to operational excellence and maintenance standards.
Gopesh Kumar Verma, another senior station manager, received a special award for his significant contribution to the use and promotion of Raj Bhasha, reflecting DMRC’s dedication to linguistic diversity and inclusivity.
Among the recipients was Vijendra Singh, assistant manager security, whose proactive intervention in a case of molestation at Mandi House Metro Station demonstrated exemplary vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement. Singh’s prompt action facilitated the resolution of a sensitive case, highlighting DMRC’s commitment to passenger safety and security.
The DMRC, since the inauguration of its first corridor between Shahdara and Tis Hazari on December 25, 2002, has expanded exponentially. Currently, the Delhi Metro network spans approximately 392.44 kilometers with 288 stations, serving millions of commuters daily.
The recognition garnered by the Botanical Garden metro station and other awardees underscores DMRC’s relentless pursuit of excellence in providing safe, efficient, and sustainable urban transportation solutions for the national capital region. These accolades not only honor the hard work and dedication of DMRC employees but also inspire them to continue raising the bar for public service in the years to come.
