Unemployment Crisis Looms: Congress Unveils Ambitious Job Creation Blueprint

Amid escalating concerns over soaring unemployment rates, the Congress party has launched a scathing attack on the central government, asserting that the nation is on the brink of a catastrophic joblessness epidemic. Highlighting the plight of the youth under the Modi administration’s governance, the Congress has unveiled a comprehensive strategy aimed at mitigating the escalating unemployment crisis.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge sounded the alarm, citing alarming statistics from the India Employment Report 2024, jointly published by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the Institute of Human Development (IHD). Kharge emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise of generating 20 crore jobs in a decade has regrettably transformed into a staggering loss of over 12 crore jobs, severely impacting the younger demographic.

“The relentless surge in unemployment, exacerbated by the government’s indifference, has shattered the aspirations of our youth,” Kharge lamented. He pointed out that a staggering 83% of the unemployed in India belong to the youth segment, with rural areas bearing a disproportionate burden of job scarcity.

Kharge underscored the stagnation in industrial and manufacturing employment since 2012, coupled with a significant decline in youth participation in economic activities under the Modi regime. Drawing a sharp contrast with the previous Congress-led UPA government, Kharge emphasized the pressing need for effective job creation measures.

To address the crisis, the Congress has unveiled the ‘Yuva Nyay’ initiative, featuring a slew of guarantees aimed at rejuvenating the job market. Among its key provisions are the ambitious goal of filling nearly 30 lakh vacant central government positions and enacting legislation to ensure apprenticeship opportunities for degree/diploma holders, with financial assistance.

Moreover, the Congress has pledged to tackle systemic issues such as paper leaks and improve social security and working conditions in the gig economy. A dedicated fund of Rs 5,000 crore will be established, with allocations to each district to stimulate local employment initiatives.

Echoing Kharge’s sentiments, senior Congress leader P Chidambaram criticized the BJP-led government’s approach to unemployment, particularly highlighting the Chief Economic Advisor’s remarks on the limitations of government intervention. Chidambaram affirmed that the Congress possesses a concrete blueprint to combat unemployment, slated for unveiling in its manifesto.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reiterated the party’s commitment to addressing the unemployment crisis, emphasizing the stark reality depicted in the India Employment Report 2024. She lambasted the BJP government for its failure to provide viable employment opportunities and reaffirmed the Congress’s dedication to implementing effective job creation strategies.

As the Congress intensifies its critique of the government’s handling of economic challenges, including inflation and unemployment, the party remains steadfast in its resolve to champion the cause of job seekers nationwide.

In conclusion, with the specter of unemployment looming large, the Congress’s proactive stance and comprehensive job creation agenda offer a glimmer of hope amidst the prevailing uncertainty, promising a brighter future for India’s aspiring workforce.
