NCP (SP) Manifesto Unveiled: Backs Caste Census, Advocates Farmer Welfare, and More

In a significant move ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Sharad Pawar, unveiled its manifesto titled “Shapatnama” on Thursday. The manifesto encompasses a wide range of promises and policies, emphasizing social welfare, economic reforms, and strategic diplomacy.

The cornerstone of the NCP’s manifesto is its support for a caste census, a separate commission for farmers’ welfare, and a slew of other progressive measures. The party advocates for 50 per cent reservation for women in jobs, highlighting its commitment to gender equality and empowerment.

Additionally, the manifesto supports the demand for full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and opposes the concept of ‘one nation, one election’. It also pledges to review and propose changes to controversial laws such as the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), National Register for Citizens (NRC), and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) to ensure they align with constitutional principles.

Addressing the press conference, Maharashtra NCP (SP) president Jayant Patil reiterated the party’s stance, emphasizing the need for constitutional amendments to raise the reservation cap and banning contract labor in government sectors.

The NCP (SP) manifesto outlines its commitment to affordable health and education, proposing measures to ensure access to justice and inclusive representation within the judiciary. It also promises to give the Goods and Services Tax (GST) a “human face”, along with restructuring taxes on petrol and diesel.

Furthermore, the manifesto delves into the party’s foreign policy, advocating for strategic global diplomacy and fostering partnerships that align with India’s role on the world stage. It also emphasizes national and internal security concerns, promising to strengthen cyber laws and prioritize judicial reforms.

Patil highlighted the manifesto’s focus on “all-inclusive” development, which includes measures for environmental protection, promotion of art and culture, and welfare initiatives for the LGBTQ community.

Responding to queries about the party’s contributions to the agriculture sector, Sharad Pawar dismissed criticisms from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, emphasizing the need for substantive discussion on the sector’s issues.

In conclusion, the NCP (SP) manifesto represents a comprehensive vision for the nation’s future, encompassing social justice, economic progress, and strategic interests. With its promises of inclusive governance and progressive reforms, the party aims to win the trust of voters and pave the way for a more equitable and prosperous India.
