In preparation for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to galvanize Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Telangana. Scheduled for today, Shah will address a gathering of BJP polling booth workers at the LB Stadium in Hyderabad, according to party sources.
Dubbed the ‘Polling Booth Sammelan’, Shah’s itinerary includes a visit to the revered Bhagyalakshmi temple in Charminar before he proceeds to the meeting. Additionally, he is slated to engage with BJP’s social media warriors in a separate session at 1 PM, as confirmed by party insiders.
Accompanying Shah at the meeting will be Union Tourism Minister and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy, along with OBC Morcha president and Rajya Sabha member K Laxman, adding weight to the event.
This marks Shah’s second visit to the state following the Assembly polls held on November 30 last year. During his earlier visit on December 28, 2023, Shah had set ambitious targets for the party’s performance in Telangana during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He aimed for the BJP to secure at least 10 seats and attain a 35 per cent vote share, a significant leap from the party’s performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls when they clinched four out of the 17 seats in Telangana.
Addressing ‘mandal’ presidents of the party from across Telangana during his previous visit, Shah characterized the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) as a “sunken ship”, while labeling the state’s ruling Congress as a “sinking ship”. In contrast, he positioned the BJP as the beacon of Telangana’s future, emphasizing the party’s resolve to emerge as a formidable political force in the state.
As Shah takes center stage in Hyderabad today, his address to BJP workers not only underscores the party’s strategic focus on Telangana but also signals a proactive approach to mobilize grassroots support ahead of the crucial electoral battle. With political dynamics evolving rapidly, Shah’s visit is poised to energize the BJP cadre and bolster the party’s prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
