Tourists in HP’s Spiti Valley Relocated Amidst Severe Weather; Over 650 Roads Closed

In the wake of heavy snowfall and adverse weather conditions, authorities in Himachal Pradesh have taken swift action to ensure the safety of tourists and residents alike. As many as 81 tourists stranded in Spiti Valley have been relocated to safer accommodations, while over 650 roads, including major highways, remain closed due to avalanches and landslides.

According to police reports, the closure of nearly 290 roads in the tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti has posed significant challenges, leaving several areas without electricity for the past two days. However, authorities have been proactive in addressing the situation, with stranded tourists being transferred to hotels and homestays for their safety.

The severe weather conditions, characterized by heavy rain and snow, have also disrupted mobile networks in the region, further complicating rescue and communication efforts. An avalanche near Dara Waterfall in Lahaul and Spiti has heightened concerns, prompting officials to issue alerts and advisories to residents of adjacent villages.

Residents of Jobrang, Rapi, Jasrath, Tarand, and Tharot have been urged to remain vigilant and report any emergencies to the nearest police post. With cold wave conditions persisting across the state, authorities remain on high alert to mitigate the impact of the inclement weather on the local population.

As the state grapples with the aftermath of the severe weather event, efforts are underway to restore connectivity and essential services to affected areas. The closure of major roads and disruption of communication networks underscore the challenges posed by extreme weather events in mountainous regions like Himachal Pradesh.

Despite the adversity, the swift response of authorities in relocating stranded tourists reflects a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of visitors to the picturesque Spiti Valley. As rescue and relief operations continue, residents and tourists are advised to exercise caution and adhere to safety guidelines issued by local authorities.

With the situation evolving rapidly, authorities are closely monitoring weather forecasts and coordinating response efforts to address the challenges posed by the ongoing weather crisis in Himachal Pradesh.
