Renowned Kannada actor and seasoned politician, K Shivaram, breathed his last at the age of 70 in Bengaluru on Thursday. Battling various health complications, he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. Survived by his wife and daughter, K Shivaram’s demise marks the end of an era in Karnataka’s entertainment and political spheres.
K Shivaram, hailing from a humble background in a poor Dalit family, rose to prominence with his versatile talents. Making his mark in the realm of acting, he captivated audiences with memorable performances in notable films such as “Baa Nalle Madhuchandrake” (1993) and “Tiger” (2017).
His portrayal of Shivram Nayak in “Tiger,” directed by Nanda Kishore, alongside his brother-in-law Pradeep, garnered widespread acclaim. The film, which also featured the late veteran actor Om Puri, showcased K Shivaram’s prowess as an actor and earned him lasting recognition in the industry.
Despite facing challenges, K Shivaram’s contributions extended beyond the silver screen. He etched his name in history by becoming the first person to clear the UPSC exam in Kannada in 1986, a testament to his intellect and determination.
Transitioning from civil service to politics, K Shivaram embarked on a new journey, affiliating himself with various political parties, including the Indian National Congress, Janata Dal (Secular), and ultimately, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His dedication and service to the people spanned decades, leaving an indelible mark on Karnataka’s political landscape.
K Shivaram’s last rites will be conducted on Friday, March 1, as family, friends, and fans bid farewell to a stalwart whose legacy will endure through his remarkable body of work and unwavering commitment to public service.
